Rules for Love

We can't want each other so, that we lie
at home to our loved ones, this is the first rule.
We can't  say to each other: "What if we'd take it all off?
We'll open the the last gate." This is rule number two.

We have to invent the rules for love.
And love within their boundaries, slow down for the intersections in time.
We have to invent the rules for love.
And love within their boundaries, and turn for home in time.

We can't look at each other so, so that we'll reveal the truth.
We'll let in and stay side by side forever, this is already rule number three.
We can't need each other so, so that we'd sink.
And we can't live on our own, this is the rule most hopeless.

We have to invent the rules for love.
And love within their boundaries, slow down for the intersections in time.
We have to invent the rules for love.
And love within their boundaries, and turn for home in time.

We can't abandon each other, what if we do fall in love after all?
If we were created as one in the beginning, this is the last rule.

We have to invent the rules for love.
And love within their boundaries, slow down for the intersections in time.
We have to invent the rules for love.
And love within their boundaries, and turn for home in time.

Samuli Putro - Olet Puolisoni Nyt

You Are My Spouse now

No prairies, no fields, no mountaintops
There's a city and in it two senior citizens
The other wakes to a repeating nightmare and gets out of bed
The wolves aren't howling and the water's not ice cold
The spouses body covered by two quilts
The other one was a present, it's edge fraying
The gaze freezes, the time not

The tears begin to flow just downstairs
The silence is so perfectly silent
That a whisper is a shout
I wouldn't trade a second
Not the youth, not the mad growing pains
Not the ice that broke, not the church bells
You were my spouse then, you are my spouse now

The wall is wallpapered and the floor is wood
Photographs of the dog and the grandchildren
The upstairs is coughing, a step is missed
The film stops
I call this the love of two people
I call this life even though
I haven't performed perfectly either

The tears begin to flow just downstairs
The silence is so perfectly silent
That a whisper is a shout
I wouldn't trade a second
Not the youth, not the mad growing pains
Not the ice that broke, not the church bells
You were my spouse then, you are my spouse now

The potent spring blossoms
And the morning wears an iron suit
When the shed is made of soapstone
There I am young like the lawns
You sit in the corner table of the room
The music is rhythmic
I ask if I can have a dance, you nod
You nod

The tears begin to flow just downstairs
The silence is so perfectly silent
That a whisper is a shout
I wouldn't trade a second
Not the youth, not the mad growing pains
Not the ice that broke, not the church bells
You were my spouse then, you are my spouse now

Zen Café - Huonot Päiväsi

Your Bad Days

The light refracts like this in your window
floating across the room toward the wall
Covering you in distant movements
that's what really makes you beautiful
I'll always stay as ugly as always
as ugly as in my class photos

I liked how you stirred
for a second and then swam back to sleep
I looked closely at those expressions
that tells me that you are you
I have exactly two expressions
one of them in use right now

When I'll know all your bad days by heart
you can invite the nights in
When I'll know all your nightmares by heart
you can invent more

I'l remember you inch by inch
but not our anniversaries
For some reasons numbers wont stay in my mind
but images like these
The light grabs the bed cover
I'll make a shield for you with my hands

When I'll know all your bad days by heart
you can invite the nights in
When I'll know all your nightmares by heart
you can invent more

Some day, through and through, I will get to know
your dreams and history

When I'll know all your bad days by heart
you can invite the nights in
When I'll know all your bad days by heart…

Note: I translated the part "Muistan sinut sentti sentiltä" to I remember you inch by inch because I thought it fits in better. Direct translation and maybe the correct one would be centimeter by centimeter but that doesn't sound as good.
